Tornado 2010

Lily, you lived through your first natural disaster. A tornado came
through our neighborhood last week. This is a picture of a tree that
fell one block from our house. We were without power for 2 days and
our car was stranded in a parking lot with a power line that fell in
the entrance.

Thankfully power has returned and life is back to normal. You were
happy as can be through the whole ordeal which made things much easier
for Mommy and Daddy. You thought it was fun to play with the
flashlight in the cool basement. Thanks for being awesome and just
going with the flow.

The red crocs

When you were first born Grandma Mandy sent you a box full of clothes
and toys. In that box were these red shoes that you recently
discovered. They just happen to fit you perfectly. You always want me
to put them on you. I can't believe that you are already showing a
preference for shoes. I also can't believe you are able to walk in
those shoes so well.

This picture also happened to capture you trying to feed Scout your
snack. I know it's funny but you are not supposed to feed the doggies
your food.

Happy Father's Day

Dear Lily,
It's no secret that you have the greatest Daddy in the world. We had a wonderful father's day. It was a sizzling hot day so we decided to buy you a baby pool that you could splash in the backyard. Mommy and Daddy chose a GIANT pool. We didn't think it would really be THAT big. It was fun to all be able to splash around together. You seemed to have fun. Here is a picture of you and Daddy balancing diving rings on your head. You had fun watching Daddy juggle the rings.

You weren't too sure at first if you liked the water, but you warmed up pretty quickly.

You spent most of your time organizing all of your animals.

We spent the rest of the afternoon grilling and playing in the backyard. It was a great day. Daddy loved the presents that you made him at school. He's going to proudly display them at work.

Love,
Mommy

Update: 14 months

Dear Lily,
Today you turned 14 months old. You are changing so fast that it is hard to keep up with all your new achievements. This month you have decided to talk. You say a new word nearly every day. Your new ability to express yourself seems to have eased a lot of frustration for you. You say "mo" for "more" every time you want something to happen again (like every single time Mommy or Daddy sing a song to you). You have a CD of children's songs that you absolutely adore. Every time a song ends you ask for more. You have recently starting doing the finger plays that go along with your songs too. You also say "up" each time you want to be picked up. Other words you have started to say: shoe, blue, down, uh-oh, baby, tree, bird, moon, ball. I am sure there are more but that's all I can think of right now. You have a serious fascination with words and letters. You are constantly asking me the name of a letter. You can now recognize /s, o, m/ by sight. You still love shapes and can even identify a hexagon from a group of other shapes!

You are finally sleeping well. You are still an early riser, but I think that just may be who you are. You take one long nap in the afternoon and go to sleep by yourself quite easily. As for walking...you can take several steps but still won't just go for it. You prefer to be carried and I can't really blame you for that. Eating is still a challenge. You know what you like and are not a big fan of trying new things. I'm not giving up on the fruit and vegetable battle just yet.

You have become really funny about certain textures. You WILL NOT let any part of your body touch carpet. It has become more and more evident lately that you have a major problem with this texture. I'm not sure what it is that bothers you but I am hoping that passes sometime soon. You are still quite attached to your blanket. You love to feel your blanket. Sometimes you pick things up through your blanket. You like to manipulate toys and read books without actually touching them (only touching the blanket).

Aunt Bianca is visiting this week. You sure take a while to warm up to people. You are finally blowing kisses to her. Here you are having a snack with Aunt Bianca:

We went to an art event called Art in the Open with Aunt Bianca. You were able practice one of your new favorite hobbies...coloring:

Aunt Bianca got to be part of an art exhibit. Knitting needles were hooked up to an amplifier so each stitch was amplified over a loud speaker. It made for some very interesting sounds that you seemed intrigued by. It was hard to get you both in a picture.

Then we went to Urban Outfitters (one of Aunt Bianca's favorite stores). You thought this bean bag chair was pretty cool. You played with this toy that had about a dozen buttons each with a different sound effect. You love to push buttons. One of the buttons was of a person screaming. When you pushed that button it made you cry. You did not like that at all.

Lily you are an awesome kid. I am so proud of all your accomplishments. I love your sense of humor and curious nature. You have grown so much in the last month that I can't imagine what next month will hold.

Love,
Mommy

LILY's FIRST STEPS!!!

I think our lives are about to change again. Congratulations Lily!!
We're so proud of you!!

Number 1

Today it became pretty clear that you recignize the number one. We
were given a number one while waiting for our lunch. I didn't even
notice but you started pointing to it and telling me "one" with your
finger. You then of course started blowing if kisses and trying to
feed it your food.
